Hi, I’m Sue!
It all began with the Easy Bake Oven in 1968. Best Christmas Present EVER!
I was lucky as a child that my mom liked to make Toll House chocolate chip cookies – a standard after school snack at our house. I loved to help her bake them. I also remember her pie crust – the best! Chocolate pies and Pumpkin pies were a staple for holidays when I was growing up. I lit up in Home Economics whenever we got to bake something in class. Girl Scouts gave me many opportunities to try alternative baking – over a fire, in a Dutch oven and on the stove.
For my 25th birthday, I received my first KitchenAid mixer from my parents – which I still have and use! I experimented with many recipes for cookies, cakes, pies, and candy – the first baking recipe I tested over and over until I got it to be my own was a New York style Cheesecake.
Over the years, I have baked for many friends and family members – I found that baking was a way for me to be creative while still holding on to my left-brain personality.
When I first started dating my husband, Alex, we found out we both liked to cook for our friends. We loved to entertain people for the holidays, and eventually friends started asking if we'd cook things for them - so we started catering part time.
Alex likes to smoke meat, so that was our niche. We were living in Seattle at the time, so anything from the South was exotic to people. Deep-fried turkey was a favorite!
We started providing food for weddings, funerals and all types of special meals for many friends and it grew from word of mouth. Part time catering has been a part of our entire 30 years of marriage - in Seattle, Northwest Arkansas, and Yalobusha County, Mississippi.
As I got closer to traditional retirement, I knew that I wanted to try something different and the baking side of Sue Can Do was born. My goal is to bake wonderful treats, all by hand with as many locally sourced ingredients as possible. I am not a production baker, nothing is perfect, but my flavors are exceptional!
Alex’s and my catering specialties include smoked meats, tailgating for Ole Miss football (we are starting our second season of providing food for the Ole Miss Rebelettes this year!) weddings, business lunches and holiday dinners.
No matter what your needs may be, I look forward to helping each customer find exactly what they need for a special day or for an ordinary day to become special.
